Parmi ces le\u00e7ons, il y en a trois qui se sont vraiment d\u00e9marqu\u00e9es\u00a0:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Le chauffage au bois est sacr\u00e9. <\/strong>M\u00eame si la plupart d'entre nous ne pensent pas souvent \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont nous chauffons nos maisons, la m\u00e9thode par laquelle les Navajos chauffent leurs maisons pendant l'hiver rigoureux est quelque chose qui est d'une importance vitale pour eux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u00abLa chaleur du bois est tr\u00e8s c\u00e9r\u00e9moniale et sacr\u00e9e\u00bb, explique Phillips. \u00ab M\u00eame les cendres sont sacr\u00e9es pour eux. Ils croient que placer une petite marque de cendre sur le front aidera \u00e0 conjurer les mauvais r\u00eaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. La tradition est un mode de vie. <\/strong>La vie au sein de la nation Navajo est beaucoup plus multig\u00e9n\u00e9rationnelle que ce que l\u2019on voit g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement dans la culture am\u00e9ricaine d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui. Dans la culture Navajo, la matriarche et le patriarche de la famille vivent souvent \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de leurs enfants et des enfants de leurs enfants.<\/p>\n\n\n\nCe mode de vie permet une profonde reconnaissance de la tradition \u2013 et la transmission de cette tradition de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration en g\u00e9n\u00e9ration. L\u2019une de ces pratiques que nous avons apprises s\u2019appelle \u00ab le pain \u00e0 genoux \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00abLe pain \u00e0 genoux est fabriqu\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de ma\u00efs qu'ils d\u00e9cortiquent, puis coupent les grains et \u00e9crasent \u00e0 l'aide d'un mortier et d'un pilon\u00bb, explique Phillips. "Il est ensuite fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 et remis dans la coque pour cuire."<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. L'eau, c'est la vie. <\/strong>C'est plus qu'une le\u00e7on que nous avons apprise : c'est v\u00e9ritablement une devise de vie pour le peuple Navajo. Dans un environnement o\u00f9 l\u2019eau peut \u00eatre rare, elle est extr\u00eamement pr\u00e9cieuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u00ab Il ne pleut pas tr\u00e8s souvent l\u00e0-bas, mais quand il pleut, il pleut fort \u00bb, explique Phillips. \u00ab Lorsque nous sommes arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 la deuxi\u00e8me maison que nous avons visit\u00e9e, il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 pleuvoir. La matriarche a dit : \u00ab Vous \u00eates de bon augure, vous avez apport\u00e9 la pluie. \u00bb Pour beaucoup d'entre nous, c'est \u00ab juste de la pluie \u00bb, mais pour le peuple Navajo, l'eau, c'est la vie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dans notre m\u00e9tier, la chaleur, c\u2019est aussi la vie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ce fut un v\u00e9ritable honneur de partager ces moments avec le peuple Navajo et de rapporter \u00e0 la maison la perspective qu'ils partageaient.
